MLB: History of the Texas Rangers (rights women sports)
No commentsBy Joel Hansen
The Texas Rangers are a franchise that has been around for nearly 50 years this point. They have not always been known as the Texas Rangers however. In their conception, they were known as the Washington Senators.
The Washington Senators became an organization in 1961. The team came into existence after the original Washington Senators team moved to Minnesota and became the Twins. Major League Baseball went on to expand one year later and recreated a team in Washington with the same name as the original.
The team never found success in Washington. During their time in Washington the team averaged 90 losses per year, falling far short of the where they would have liked to be. The lone bright spot for the struggling organization was Frank Howard, who won two homerun titles.
In 1971 the team made the decision to move to Texas to try to spark and salvage the franchise. The team was renamed to become the Rangers in honor of the lawmen that worked in Texas. In 1974 the Rangers began to change the face of the franchise. The two years previous to that year the team lost more than one hundred games. Despite this poor finish the team was able to jump over the .500 mark and won 84 games on the season. This was and is the only time in the history of Major League Baseball that a team was able to make that sort of a turnaround.
The Rangers still were not able to find a tremendous amount of success in the 70s. They likewise were not able to find much success in the 80s, although the 1980s were the beginning of new hope for the Texas Rangers. Bobby Valentine came and turned around the team in terms of talent.
Although Valentine never saw too much success while he was on the team, he helped to pave the way for the team to become successful in the 1990s. The team saw much improvement in his time brought in power hitters and young pitching that would pave the way for the division titles that were to come.
In the 1990s the team managed to win three division titles, the first three in team history and they appeared to be a team that had staying power as they stayed competitive during the last half of the decade. Unfortunately, the team has not been able to find success in terms of winning division titles since 1999.
The team made some major changes to their squad and payroll in the early 2000s as they signed future hall of famer Alex Rodriguez. Many people expected Rodriguez to reshape the franchise and bring them to glory. The Rangers gave him a 10 year deal worth more than 250 million dollars. Unfortunately, the signing off A-Rod wasnt enough. Despite his great numbers with the team, they could not win games. The team eventually traded Rodriguez to the Yankees in hopes to rebuilding with new pieces.
Unfortunately the time has not come yet for the Rangers. They have a lot of talent and appear to be on their way to becoming a competitor, but they have not proven yet that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Gym for all
By Arthor Greenwald
The number of gyms and the number of people joining them has grown dramatically in recent years. A large part of this can be put down to studies which have shown both the benefits of positive lifestyles and the negatives of an unhealthy lifestyle. The number of TV programs, adverts and even magazine articles which have highlighted the dangers of fatty food, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and alcohol has been constantly increasing. All of these factors have helped to make people healthier and more active, this in turn has led to more people joining gyms in an effort to get in top physical condition.
One good aspect of modern gyms is that they are no longer tailored towards men. A lot of older gyms were full of weight lifting equipment with no cardiovascular equipment in sight. Fortunately, modern gyms are much more accessible to women. They have a healthy balance of cardiovascular machines as well as decent sized weight rooms. It is important to have a combination of both as obtaining a healthy heart is an important part of physical fitness, its not just about having the biggest muscles.
